The University of Oklahoma College of Dentistry held its annual Scientific Day in Norman on Wednesday, April 19, 2017. Scientific Day gives dental students, dental hygiene students and residents the opportunity to present findings from their research projects or describe new and innovative clinical techniques.
Delta Dental of Oklahoma (DDOK) and its Oral Health Foundation were Platinum Horizon sponsors at this year’s event. Our organizations also funded two (2) student research projects:
- Shannon Clopp, a second year dental hygiene student, presented “Oral Cancer in Oklahoma: Is Smokeless Tobacco a Risk Factor?”
- Kaitlin Polk, a dental student in her fourth year, presented “Longitudinal Arch Perimeter Change from primary to Permanent Dentition.”
Both of the projects sponsored by Delta Dental were awarded prizes at the awards luncheon held at the conclusion of the event. John Gladden, president and CEO of Delta Dental of Oklahoma, also spoke at the luncheon and encouraged all in attendance to be lifelong students, constantly seeking knowledge.
Supporting the education of future dental professionals contributes greatly to our mission to advance the oral wellness of all Oklahomans. Our organization was very proud to support this annual event.
